Mike ‘Chula’ Rodgers
Chula got involved with Slow-pitch Softball when Papa Blakely’s opened in West Houston in the early 1980’s.
Shortly after, he became the NSA State Director. He and Earl King built NSA into the dominant Slow-pitch organization in South and Central Texas. Through 1980’s-1990’s he coached several Men’s A and AA teams. His team won the NSA AA World Series in 1992.
Through the 1990’s he spent time as the manager at Home Run Country Club, Softball Plus, The Ballpark in Spring, Papa Blakely’s again and Panther Park.
In 2003 he retired from softball to deal with some health issues.
In 2012 he became the NSA State Director and started Softball Texas Style.
In 2014 he formed GSA and in 2017 joined USA Softball as the Commissioner of District 99 (Texas Adult Slow-pitch).
Mike passed in late 2019 and is sorely missed in the Texas Softball Community.
